5 Worlds - Animation

Rough animation, Final animation shot 5 by me
Final animation shots 1-4, background art by Olivia When

Special thank you to Mark Siegal and the 5 Worlds team for the opportunity!

Below are a couple storyboard iterations - click to see them bigger!

Changed in favor of making all referenced scenes based on Book 3, which had not been published yet.
Another version submitted at the same time as above, where all the animations came from Book 2.

Final approved storyboards. We slightly changed Oona's shot so there were would another focus on her hand, to go with the overall theme.

The original motivation for the player was to get your stolen hat back and save your school!
(The fire turned out to be a bit much.)

Finally, we settled on getting your book back (as well as stopping the rampaging ghosts). To save on file size and to be more efficient, I changed the intro to take place in one shot! No more camera panning.

(Pt. 1)

We also aimed to place the tutorial within the intro. A "tutorial" backdrop would fall down to indicate you were in tutorial mode! We ended up moving it to right before the first level to not disrupt the flow.
(Pt. 2)

Ending, resulting in the final score screen for the players. Black bars would appear so the player would know they were watching a cutscene.
(There was originally a gameplay feature where you could choose to rescue your friends, and depending on who you saved would affect who would appear in the ending.)

Here's a different story concept: protect the trick-or-treaters!
